College Design Projects

Attending Edinboro University shaped me as an artist in more ways than I can count. While learning about my lifelong passion for animation, I also discovered a passion for design, that I didn't know I had. These are just a few of my first design projects, made as I was learning the basics and foundations of how good design works.

Alphabet Books

(Typography II)

The purpose of these projects was to present the alphabet themed as something easily and instantly recognizable. For this project I chose my favorite pop star, Lady Gaga, and my favorite cartoon at the moment, Steven Universe. For the Lady Gaga book, I chose either one of her song titles or lyrics to represent each letter of the alphabet, and dressed each letter as one of her iconic looks. For the Steven Universe book, I chose a character whose name started with each letter of the alphabet, and transformed the letter into that character.

Toxicitea (Branding)

(Design Software I) (Honors Project)

This was one of my first attempts at branding in one of my first design classes in college. This was an honors project, which means that this project fell outside the normal scope of the class, and was graded on a much more rigorous scale. The project was to brand a tea company, using only one word that also contained the word or sound "tea." I chose to contrast the generally healthy and natural view of herbal teas and think about all the chemicals we put into out bodies via sodas and energy drinks and combined them into a less than healthy tea brand "Toxicitea." Overall, I received an A and honors credit for the project.

Superhero Typeface Comic

(Typography II)

The goal of this project was to relate four seemingly unrelated typefaces and then present the four related typefaces in some sort of product that conveyed the history and details of each typeface. I chose to focus on four of DC Comics' most iconic characters and their logos. I related each typeface through the heroes, and presented an informative, if admittedly cheesy, adventure story where each hero presented information about the typeface used in their logos, while simultaneously saving the day.

This project tasked me with creating a series of book jackets, that would be able to stand on their own, as a stand alone book, and also together as part of a set. Again, I chose Steven Universe as my content matter and focused on the silhouettes of their iconic characters. Each book jacket features one of the four main characters, with one identifying aspect of their design highlighted. To really bring the set together, I created a box for the three hypothetical graphic novels, featuring the titular character's silhouette and his iconic star emblem.
